Owen is a young mouse whose fuzzy yellow blanket is his constant companion and most faithful playmate. As Owen grows older his blanket becomes tattered and torn, yet it never leaves his side. Owen, written and illustrated by Kevin Henkes, is the tale of how Owen’s parents (with a little help from their nosy neighbor) help him grow in independence without leaving Fuzzy behind completely.

Young students who have a treasured possession of their own will relate to Owen’s struggle letting go of Fuzzy, and this tale provides the opportunity to discuss what role those objects play in our lives. What comforts to these objects provide? Children may be interested to know that everyone finds comfort somewhere; whether it be under the tent of a not-so-fuzzy yellow blanket or in the sweet embrace of Christ.
